Because much of the discussion about guns today revolves around their use in crime, it’s easy to lose sight of the original reason the Second Amendment was included in the Constitution: resisting tyranny.
We devote quite a bit of attention to this historical underpinning in the class I teach at William S. Boyd School of Law, University of Nevada-Las Vegas. It’s a fascinating and vital part of American history.
I’ve written before about “the shot heard ‘round the world” (here: https://lnkd.in/g3xyFaUR) and about the Battle of Gonzales (here: https://lnkd.in/gZj2kywG).
But I had never seen the Schoolhouse Rock video about the revolutionary battles, and I’ve never been to this museum, so I really enjoyed this post by Josh Blackman on the Volokh Conspiracy.
(BTW, I have a new reason to mention the Battle of Gonzales in a post coming up in a couple weeks. Stay tuned.)
