Free Will Clinics

If you’re on LinkedIn (where I originally wrote this post), you probably don’t need to attend a free legal clinic. But lawyers aren’t cheap, and a lot of folks could use some help managing their affairs, especially when it comes to estate planning.

I’ve written before about the importance of land in Appalachia (and also explained the saying, “Good Lord willing and the creek don’t rise.”).

Failing to effectively manage the transfer of property across generations can have catastrophic consequences for those who ultimately inherit it.

That’s why I really admire LiKEN Knowledge’s initiative to provide free will preparation for people in need, in an effort to minimize the effects of “heirs’ property.”

They have organized a series of clinics where attorneys (like me) volunteer their services to prepare wills for free. I’ll be at the upcoming clinic in Stanford, Kentucky.

But my modest contribution of time is nothing compared to the efforts of attorney Joe F. Childers, who leads the effort, along with Kevin Slovinsky and others at LiKEN.

They’re doing important work and I’m happy to be a small part of it.
