Summer 1997. I walked into Pam’s No. 1 (IYKYK). I walked out a member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association. I’ve belonged ever since. Even as a retiree.
(Yes, that’s my real ‘new member’ notice from FLEOA in 1997, and a copy of my original ‘creds’!)
Over the course of my career, I dealt with FLEOA attorneys many times.
As an agent at IRS Criminal Investigation. (No, I didn’t get in trouble. IRS tried to make me pay back move money; FLEOA told them “no!”)
As an ATF supervisor, when they spoke at local chapter meetings, and explained how to stay out of trouble. (Very useful knowledge.)
As the Special Agent in Charge of ATF’s Internal Affairs, when they sat on the other side of the table.
And as an executive, when FLEOA attorneys vigorously advocated for policies to protect agents.
On every occasion, without exception, I was impressed by their zeal, their knowledge, their professionalism, and their commitment to standing up for agents.
That’s why I couldn’t be more proud to be joining FLEOA anew, nearly 30 years later, as the newest member of its legal team.
Here is FLEOA’s announcement.
If you and I have ever talked about FLEOA before, and you weren’t a member, I urged you to join. I hope you listened.
If so, you’ll see an article I wrote in the upcoming issue of “The 1811” on Supremacy Clause Immunity. (These days, it’s worth knowing how the Constitution protects you.)
And if you’re not a member, join today. Because they just added one more attorney to the team. And he’s pretty excited to be on your side.
